Problem statement
Water is an essential part of human life. Nevertheless, 63 residents, 23 Wide Horizons students and 2 staffs who live in Mon Baptist Church Community are suffering from the effects of inadequate water in Mon Baptist Church compound, at Taung Yoe Dan Street in Mawlamyine. This problem creates for 88 people busier, spend more money and Wide Horizons Students have to wait for long time to take shower and laundry. To solve this problem, we will dig artesian well to provide sufficient water for all of the Mon Baptist Church residents, also WH students and staffs.
Mon Baptist Church Community faces water shortage in every year from January to May. The reason is low water resource and water committee limit to release the water because they cannot pump sufficient water from the artesian well. Therefore, they separated three sections and release water each section for 15 minutes per time (morning, afternoon and evening). Moreover, the population is increasing because it is including with 23 Wide Horizons students and 2 staffs in 2018. It makes more water deficiency than before because the community have to share water with the Wide Horizons students and it can create misunderstanding between community and WH School. This problem effects to 63 residents, 23 WH students and 2 staffs.
Due to water shortage, community residents, including Wide Horizons students and staffs are facing with lots of problems. According to residents said they have to carry water from outside well one day per time and it takes fifteen minutes. Sometime, they have to buy water for cooking, bathing and washing clothes by collecting 1000 kyats per house to get 100 gallons. Moreover, according to the resident who run the cooking shop for order, when they have to carry water from outside, they have to wake up early to get water and have to use their time and energy more than other. For the Wide Horizons, students cannot take a bath on time and they late night study class mostly in March and April. Some of students cannot take a bath, feel hot, sticky, itchy and they cannot concentrate on their lessons at night study. Moreover, Wide Horizons also used to buy water for one time in May and it cost 7000 kyats for 10,000 liters because community cannot release water for WH students.
To recover water shortage, we will dig deeper pipe well to reach water table. Then, we will build plastic water tank which can store 4000 gallons and join pipe to the community residents. It can store rain water during raining season. So, each house can get more 180 gallons than before. The church water committee will maintain this water project for long term.
Water shortage is a serious problem in Mon Baptist Church Community. It is effecting to the residents and delay for Wide Horizons students to study. But it can solve by digging artesian well with big machine. This artesian well will help 63 residents, 23 Wide Horizons students and 2 staffs. For the residents, they do not need to carry and buy water anymore, and no need to worry about using water such as cooking, laundry, showering and cleaning. Then, for the Wide Horizons students and staffs, they will be able to take shower and study on time. Furthermore, they will have and build strong relationship within community.
