Maung Myo Htun 

Program Manager

Maung Myo Htun is a former Wide Horizons Organizational Development Program (WH) student. He arrived in Mae La Oon refugee camp on the Thai-Myanmar border from Karen State 11 years ago. In the camp, he finished his studies at the Yaung Ni Oo High School in 2010. After his studies, he worked as a laboratory staff member at the Mae La Oon hospital. In 2011 he came to Mae Sot and worked as an intern at the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP). After working with AAPP for one year, he enrolled in the WH program for the 2012-13 academic year. Today, he is working as the Program Manager. He is to be happy to work with his former teachers and student Coordinator and with the new students.

Mi Lyah Wondi Chan
Program Officer

Mi Lyah Wondi Chan @ Wah Wah Tun is one of an alumni student from the Wide Horizons Organizational Development Program (WH). She is Mon ethnicity and she is from Taung Pa Lu Village, Thanbyuzayat Township in Mon State. She finished high school on 2011and she attended Distance University in Mawlamyine.

During attended Distance University, she got selected to join Women Intensive Program in Mon Women’s Organization (MWO) about six months. After Intensive Program, she continued working with MWO about one year. At the same time, she got selected to join Wide Horizons Program on 2015-2016 academic year in Mae Sot, Thailand. After WH program, she took work placement as a Training Coordinator position at MWO. Then, she worked as a Project Manager for two years in MWO. During working with MWO, she graduated from the University of Distance Education which is Geography major in 2017. 

Today, she is working as a Program Officer at WH program. She is so glad that she have a chance to apply her skills with her school, teacher and new students.

Aung Than
Program Coordinator, safeguarding officer, computer trainer

Aung Than is Rakhaing/Arakanese. His family fled to India when he was five years old because of Myanmar soldier oppression. He didn’t have a chance to study formal education. He lived a few years in India then fled to Bangladesh because of Indian government oppression. He got a chance to live at a monastery with novice life and studied Bangla language. Aung Than moved to Thailand in June, 2011 to further his education and assisted in founding Arakan Human Rights and Environmental Movement (AHREM). In 2012, he was selected by the EarthRights School in Chaing Mai. He attended WH from 2014-2015 and today he is working at WH as a Program Coordinator. Aung Than is so proud of being a WH staff and loves his job.

Zun Pwint Aung (Rylan)
community development trainer

Zun Pwint Aung (Rylan) is from Mawlamyine, Mon State. She joined the English Access Microscholarship Program in Mawlamyine which was funded by the U.S Embassy. She continued her career by becoming a trainer and teacher. She graduated from Mawlamyine University in 2019 with B.A English. She is a Former Mon Delegate of Hong Kong-Myanmar ChangeMaker Exchange Program. After the program, she gave capacity building training to the youth in Mon State. In the middle of her academic year at University, she  taught English Classes at Ramonnya Land English Language Center. Afterwards, she studied Liberal Arts & Social Science at Parami Institute, Myanmar. She is proud of getting this great opportunity to share her abilities and knowledge to the
students at Wide Horizons and is looking forward to supporting the community together with Wide Horizons Staffs and Students.

english trainer

Saw Paw Mwee arrived in Umphiem Refugee Camp in 2002. In 2009, he graduated from Dooplaya No (2) High School. Then he joined Kaw Leh Junior College (KLJC) in 2009 and attended English Immersion Program (EIP) from 2011 to 2012. After EIP, he gave English trainings to diverse adult learners in the camp and in Kayin State. He studied International Political Economy and Development (IPED) in Rangsit University. Recently, he is an English Instructor at Wide Horizons. He is happy to have this opportunity to share his skills and knowledge to the students whose ethnicities and backgrounds are different at Wide Horizons.

STEPHEN
GILDERSLEVE


project coordinator

Stephen Gildersleve is the community development teacher at Wide Horizons. He originally comes from Cambridge, England but had spent the last ten years teaching English around the world, including Vietnam, Colombia and Turkey. He has been working in Mae Sot for four years as a teacher trainer working both in migrant schools and the refugee camps. He is pleased to join the Wide Horizons family and be able to teach some of the best students in the world. In his free time, he enjoys running around a football pitch pretending to play football and going on long bike rides through the countryside.
